Get the ERES Conference App

With the ERES Conference App you can check the program of the conference, read the abstracts, scroll through the list of participants, and much more during your ERES conference. For detailed information, see below.

To download and install the ERES Conference App, open this link in your mobile device:

https://library.eres.org/ERES_app/index.html

Installing the ERES Conference App

Technically, the ERES Conference App is a Progressive Web App (PWA). Because of this, you can always use the link above to start the app. The same app, which is actually a web page, runs in the same way on Android and IOS. You do not have to install it from an App Store or update it to the latest version.

When you start it the first time on your mobile device, you will be offered to add the app to your homescreen. If you agree to that, an icon for the app like the one to the right will be added to the screen of your mobile device and in the future you will be able to start the ERES Conference App with just one click on this icon.

If you are not offered this option or changed your mind, open the app in your browser on your mobile device via the link, click the three dots at the bottom right to get to the menu, and select "Add to Homescreen" or the corresponding item on your mobile device.

Operating the ERES Conference App

Investigating the programme

When you open the ERES Conference App, you will see a page with eight buttons (see the first screenshot on the right). The top four indicate the days of the conference. For ERES 2025 they run from "Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025" to "Saturday, July 5th, 2025". These dates will be different in future conferences, of course.

When you click one of these buttons, the program for this day will open (see the second screenshot on the right). You will see title, time, and location of the session or activity. Titles in bold and dark blue font are clickable. Clicking will get you to the detailed program of the respective session or panel (see the third screenshot on the right).

In the program overview of the day (second screenshot on the right), you will find a star icon next to each session title. These icons indicate whether the respective session is among your favorites or not. When the star has only a blue outline, the session is not among your favorites. When the star is solid blue, the session belongs to your favorites. Click on this star icon to toggle the favorite status of this session.

You can get to additional information from the detailes session program (third screenshot). Click the name of an author to see all the papers this author is involved. Click the "abstract" link to see the abstract of that presentation.

To get back to the previous page, click the "<" icon on the top left. The "hamburger icon" (three horizontal lines) always takes you back to the start page of the app.

People, Favorites, Communication, and About

When you click on the icon named "People", you will be shown a list of all the co-authors of presentations scheduled at the conference (see the first screenshot on the right). The names are ordered alphabetically by last name and then first name. You can scroll through this list or click on an initial on the right to jump to the respective section of the list. When you click on one of the names, you will see the activities this participant is involved in.

The icon "Favorites" gets you to a list of the sessions that you have marked as favorites in the program (see the second screenshot on the right). This list works just like the overall program. Click on the title of the session to see its full program and follow all the embedded links. In the background, favorites are managed differently in the two modes of the ERES Conference App. For more details, see the next section "The modes of the ERES Conference App".

The behavior of the icon "Communication" depends fundamentally upon the mode of the app. Therefore, it is only mentioned. The description follows in the next section "The modes of the ERES Conference App".

The icon "About" gets you to the about page of the ERES Conference App (see the third screenshot on the right). It just provides the credits and does not serve any other purpose.

The modes of the ERES Conference App

The ERES Conference App can operate in two modes: "Standard Mode" and "Communication Mode". When you install the app in the way described above, it will run in "Standard Mode". In this mode you currently can do everything the app offers except

  • communicate with other participants and
  • access favorites that you already have selected in the ERES conference tool

In "Standard Mode", the app does not know who you are and does not provide access to any personal information. To switch to "Communication Mode", you need to identify yourself to the ERES Conference App. In "Communication Mode" the app provides the same functionality as in "Standard Mode", plus the following two functions:

  1. It integrates those favorites that you may already have marked in the program display of the ERES Conference Software into the favorites of the app and keeps those selections synchronized. Since these selections on different devices are your personal choice, the ERES Conference App needs to know your identity for this function.
  2. It allows you to send messages to other conference participants and receive messages from them. For this function to work, also the ERES Conference App of your communication partner must be in "Communication Mode". Obviously, also this function requires that the app knows your identity.
More functions may be added to the ERES Conference App in the future.

How to activate "Communication Mode" (Link you App)

We use the authentication function of the ERES Conference Software (https://library.eres.org/ERES_network) for the identification of users in the ERES Conference App. Since this step requires activities on the Conference Software as well as on the Conference App, we also refer to this step as "Linking the App".

You need to activate "Communication Mode" only once in the ERES Conference App. Once activated, the app will run in "Communication Mode" for the current and future conferences.

When the app runs in "Standard Mode" and you click the icon "Communication", you will see page shown in the first screenshot on the right. It gives short instructions and the form to enter the required information. In a nutshell, the steps you need to take are the following (the screenshots for the steps on the ERES Conference Software are shown below):

  1. Open the ERES Conference Software (https://library.eres.org/ERES_network) in a web browser (on a computer or mobile device). This is the tool where you submitted abstracts and/or registered for the conference.
  2. Login to the ERES Conference Sorftware with your credentials.
  3. Click your name on the top right of the screen and click "Link ERES App".
  4. In the page that opens, enter a password six characters long. You will only need this password in the next steps and only once. It is also stored (in encrypted form) only for 30 minutes. Therefore, this password does not have to meet any of the usual security requirements.
  5. Click the button "Get Link Code" and write down the code.
  6. Open the ERES Conference App and click "Communication" (see the second screenshot on the right).
  7. Enter Link-Code and Password and click the button "Link". In response, you will see a welcome message (see the third screenshot on the right)

Step 5:

Using the ERES Conference App in "Communication Mode"

With the app switched to "Communication Mode", you can now use the communication tools. The header section of the page now shows the icon (first screenshot on the right). This indicates that the app is linked (in "Communication Mode").

When you click the "Communication" button, you will see a page like in the second screenshot on the right. Via this simple message client, you can check the messages you have received (click "In") and sent (click "Out"). These lists only show the sender or recipient of the message, the date/time it was sent, and the subject. Click one of these summaries to get the full message folded out.

When you click "New", you will get the form shown in the third screenshot on the right that lets you compose a message. Select the recipient from the select list. This list only shows participants whose ERES Conference App is in "Communication Mode". Participants who have checked in at the registration desk at the current ERES conference are marked with "*". Add a short subject and the text of your message, and click the "Send" button.

At the moment, the communication module of the app does not notify the recipient when a new message arrives. This obvious extension is under development and will be added later.

When something goes wrong

The ERES Conference App in the format of a PWA is a new development and is probably not bug-free. If you experience some problems using this app, please send a message to help@eres.org. Your feedback is highly appreciated. When you report a problem, please try to specify as clearly as possible

  • where in the app you experienced the problem,
  • what were the symptoms of the problem (app reacted unexpectedly, screen froze, etc.),
  • what you tried to resolve the problem (and did it work),
  • when (day/time) you experienced the problem,
  • whether the problem was persistent or happened only once.

Your feedback will help us to improve the ERES Conference App for future ERES Conferences.
